HOW TO MAKE HERBAL TEA
For the best results, always use filtered,
spring, or distilled water. Don't use tap water which
contains chemicals that destroy the herbs
Hot tea brewing method:
Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon of herbs
for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the pot,
cover and let steep for 2-4 minutes. Pour over a strainer into your
cup. Sweeten if desired. (Add herbs either directly to the
pot or in a mesh bag)
Iced tea brewing method:
(to make 1 liter/quart): Place 5 teaspoons herbs into a teapot or
heat resistant pitcher. Pour 1-1/4 cups of freshly boiled water
over the herbs. Steep for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher
with cold water. Pour the brewed tea into the serving
pitcher, straining the leaves. Add ice and fill with cold water.
Garnish (I like mint leaf) and sweeten to taste.

Herbal
teas can soothe the spirit and improve the body. Taken regularly,
herbal teas are an excellent addition to your natural living lifestyle,
and along with aromatherapy, can enhance your health and well-being.
Here's
to your good health and good taste. Enjoy!
LOOSE HERBAL TEA
Most
of us don't have fresh herbs growing in our gardens year round, so we're
dependent on others to provide quality herbs for our tea.
How
can you determine quality? Look for herbs from a small supplier that
has a high turnover, assuring fresh herbs; most large or commercial
companies have shelves and shelves of herbs stored in a warehouse, for who
knows how long. Why I send your herbs
in large pieces: The larger the herb pieces, the less chance for
oxidation to occur and the herb can hold its value better. Smaller pieces
and powdered herbs are in a more unstable form (unless freeze dried), and
the potency is much less. (There are cases where the properties of
herbs are more available in powdered form, such as resins like myrrh and
propolis.) Store your tea in a glass jar, in a cabinet away from
heat and light, and then when you're ready to make your cup of tea, go
ahead and crush the herbs with your fingers, or with the back of a spoon,
especially if you have star anise or hibiscus in your blend. :)
The
convenience of tea bags is apparent, yet in order to put the herbs into
the tea bags, they must be cut small enough to fit, so the quality goes
down if made in advance. We offer our tea blends in loose form and
carry many choices of tea-making utensils, because to us quality comes
first. However, for your convenience, or for traveling, we do carry
bags for making your own fresh herbal tea bags.

HERBAL
TEAS FOR BABIES AND CHILDREN
Babies sleep a lot, but they don't always have
restful sleep. Even babies feel stress from the day's
activities, or may have an upset tummy, colic, or possibly
over-stimulation that could disrupt a restful sleep period.
Herbal teas do not contain caffeine, artificial
flavor or color, sugar or other stimulants.
My children were always grabbing for 'my'
tea, so I made their own herbal teas to have in their bottles,
and eventually in their sippy cup. A great way to get
immune boosting and antioxidants.
I think three or four months is when I began
serving them teas. These teas have been designed for
babies and children, but certainly are enjoyed by all ages!

ROOIBOS
This ORGANIC
herbal tea has many health benefits!
It's caffeine
free, low in tannin, and very rich in antioxidants. It
contains no additives, preservatives or colorants.
The minerals found in Rooibos are Potassium, Calcium,
Magnesium, Sodium, Copper, Zinc, Manganese, Iron and
Flouride
It does not have a
negative effect on the absorption of iron, due to the
fact that it contains half the tannin found in regular
teas.
Indigenous to the
Cederberg area in South Africa.
The herb rooibos
relieves insomnia, digestive problems (nausea, vomiting,
ulcers) and stomach cramps, constipation, treats hay
fever, allergic symptoms, asthma and eczema, helps
irritability and mild depression.
Properties: anti-spasmodic, promotes
healthy skin, relieves insomnia, colic treatment for
babies, helps heal diaper rash and other skin
irritations.
Prepare Rooibos as
you would any other loose tea, but the difference with
this tea is , the longer you allow it to steep, the more
anti-oxidants are released into the tea.
Steep up to 20 minutes. It can also be served as an ice
tea with sugar, honey, or fruit pieces. The tea is
a dark rich red color, I think you'll really like it.
More on
Rooibos:
Rooibos also
contains alpha hydroxy acids and magnesium which are
necessary for healthy skin and a healthy nervous system.
No oxalic acid can
be found in Rooibos so people suffering from kidney
stones can drink it. Although rooibos tea is widely
enjoyed as a beverage, it is said to have many health
properties and is useful in allergy attacks, skin
irritations and as a slimming drink.
Rooibos Tea is Great for
Skin!
Preliminary findings suggest that when Rooibos is
applied topically, it can be a beauty-enhancer.
Almost 70% of acne sufferers in one study reported
clearer skin when they applied it twice a day for
several weeks.
Experts recommend brewing a cup of
the tea, cooling it and applying to the face with a
cotton ball once or twice a day. No rinsing is
necessary, and the tea will not stain the skin.

SENCHA LEAF, cert. org.

Japanese Green Tea... the mildest
form of traditional green teas. Contains caffeine.
This organic green tea from Japan
is a delicate, stimulating beverage made from the season's fresh
harvest of the first young leaves. The handpicked tea leaves
from the high mountaintops of Japan are immediately steamed to
retain their peak flavor and brilliant green color.
Extensive research confirms many
health benefits associated with drinking green tea as well as
supplying daily antioxidants. It is highly recommended as a
delightful general cleansing tea. Because of the caffeine
content, green tea should be prepared using small amounts of herb
and steeped no longer than 1-2minutes. One ounce of green tea
can generate up to 20 cups of tea!
It's a nice addition to
combination teas and a healthy substitute for coffee!!

If you're
new to herbal teas, you may want to consider adding a little something to your
blend to make it a bit tastier. Some herbal blends taste great, some
are bland, some are bright, and as some people say 'if it doesn't taste
bad, it's not good for you ...' While that's not necessarily true,
some blends DO taste better than others.
Here are some
recommendations for spicing up your blends to suit your fancy:
