For
a while now, Eve has had minor trouble with her left ear.
Her right ear is perfect but her left would often be a bit waxy
and a little pinker than the other, and it seemed to be itchy at
times, as she would scratch a little or shake her head and walk
around with it cocked funny. There was no smell and the wax
was the normal light reddish brown type. Nothing serious,
but to my eyes, an affront to my perfect doggy that I simply could
not accept. I used the cleaners we use on the dogs at work,
and they would clean out the wax that was there, but they did
nothing to soothe the ear or prevent the problem, and anyway, she
HATED having them trickle down into her ear (the first is a
foaming solution that you pour into the canal and massage.
It breaks up the wax and debris and then you let the dog shake it
out. You follow it with an alcohol based drying solution
that you use to flush out the leftover suds and dry the ear canal,
the let the dog shake that out as well .. harsh, chemically
smelling stuff).

Well,
Simone sent me some of her Pooch
Ear Cleaner and the Pooch
Calming Ear Remedy. Since you use it by dampening a cotton pad and
swabbing the ear, Eve is much more tolerant of it (and it's less
messy ... no liquid for her to shake out everywhere). And it
works! I used it once a week for about 3 weeks, and since
then, the problem has not recurred! Previously, it would
reoccur after a few days. Now I just use it (in both ears)
whenever I give her a bath (her ears are so clean now that I don't
get much on the cotton pad, but it's a good preventative
measure). I haven't had to use it to clean up her ear
because it hasn't gotten waxy and pink ever since. Nor does
she scratch or shake or cock it like it is bothering her. My
perfect puppy has perfect ears again, thanks to this product.

(and Eve, who is very happy Mom doesn't pour cold stuff in my ears
anymore).
