Can essential oils/Aromatherapy be used directly on cats?

NO.

A cat's liver cannot efficiently metabolize essential oils, so that they build up in their bodies and can eventually lead to toxic levels causing death or symptoms of toxicity.

This is not so with dogs who (as humans do) have the necessary enzymes in the liver to metabolize the oils.

Broken down, this means that you could use them for some time on your cat with no symptoms of toxicity until it is too late.

However, If you diffuse essential oils in your home, many experts believe that cats will be fine as long as they are not confined in the room. Allow a door to be open so they can come or go.

How can I treat my cat naturally?

Cats should be treated with herbs, hydrosols, and natural powders. Hydrosols, herbal infusions and herbal oils are very effective treatments for cats.
